We’re first time buyers who stumbled upon a problem when applying for a mortgage - 2 lenders valued the property at nil due to a single skin wall and other associated structural issues. With limited information given to us about the hidden condition of the house from the lenders, it was suggested that we get a structural engineer report conducted. After speaking to a few structural engineers, we decided to go with James. We submitted a form for a quote and spoke to him on the phone the same day. His professionalism, kindness, and understanding with our situation was something we didn’t receive from other structural engineers that we spoke with. We don’t know anything about house structures, and he clearly explained things to us to help us feel confident in what we were doing. We decided to do a walk through with him, so he took us around the property and pointed out things we need to be aware of, as well as suggesting other reports that might need doing, like a CCTV survey for drainage. In the end, it wasn’t great news - the house did indeed have structural issues, but he delivered the information with compassion. You can tell that James is passionate about his work and really wants the best for his clients. He’s evidently very experienced in this field of work and great at explaining things.
